Zalman FPSGun

Zalman FPSGun vertical mouseThe Zalman FPSGun is a vertical gaming mouse designed for first-person shooters. The design is essentially an inverted pistol grip, with two triggers performing the functions of the LMB and RMB. A thumb-accessible scroll wheel contains the MMB. Two additional thumb-accessible buttons can be assigned to a few functions, with limited flexibility, but are designed specifically as forward/back buttons. Finally, a button toward the front changes between 3 different resolution settings, which are adjustable.

The grip is quite comfortable to hold, and easy to use for those with motor impairments. However, it came with rubber faux-leather grip pads, which quickly came loose and peeled off with use. Little comfort is lost by removing them though. The laser is located well ahead of the grip, which serves to magnify small movements. It takes a small amount of getting used to, but once you do, it’s much easier than a standard mouse. The trigger buttons are durable according to the product information, but they feel loose, and they get to be quite uncomfortable after extended use, especially when clicking and holding, or clicking and dragging.

Overall, this is functionally a good product, beneficial for gamers with disabilities. However, the construction quality feels cheap, and despite its advantages, it’s not nearly as comfortable as it could be. I use it as my regular mouse, as it’s pretty much the best I’ve found, but I really wish another company would take the concept of this mouse and make a much higher-quality and more ergonomic one. I paid about $30-40 for mine, but they’re currently starting at $70 on Amazon, which is quite steep. I think it’s lasted me about 6 years so far, which is pretty decent.
